We completed our second public hearing on the budget and I am very proud. We have kept our millage rate at under $4.00 and we remain one of the lowest taxing municipalities in the state. We heard from only two residents and we take that as a good sign that you are in alignment with our priorities.
This next fiscal year we will be focused on public safety, aesthetics and the well-being of our community, especially from an economic perspective. While next year’s budget will be an even greater challenge, we are hopeful that with use of technology and many volunteers, we will not have to seek another increase in the tax rate next year. We will certainly keep you posted.
Even through these challenging times, I know that our community’s spirit of giving is still intact. I encourage you to participate in the City’s annual Thanks For Giving food drive. You can donate non-perishable food or cash that will be distributed to local families that cannot afford a holiday meal. Since the program started in 1988, volunteers have put together more than 3,000 baskets for our community. We can’t do this without your help, so please visit CoralSprings.org/events for a complete list of items you can donate to this worthy cause. You can drop off your items at any City location.
I am also collecting used cell phones to help Women In Distress. Please drop them off at the Mayor’s office at City Hall – 9551 W. Sample Road or at my law firm – Scott J. Brook, P.A., 1401 N. University Drive, Suite 500 (on the corner of Shadowwood and University).
Are you exercising regularly? Do you want to help our community in our quest to be Fit? On Saturday, October 31, please join me for my Walk With the Mayor, as part of the City’s Commit 2B Fit efforts. Get your sneakers on and come for a walk around Mullins Park starting at 9 a.m.
Please look at our website, www.CoralSprings.org, for information on many more events and for details about our plans for next year. Lastly, I want to thank all of the students that are serving on our Teen Advisory Committee. I look forward to working with you.
Mayor Scott J. Brook
