As we begin a new Fiscal Year, I’d like to thank City staff for all of their hard work in developing the Business Plan. Not only did we take resident’s input into consideration, but we did what we thought would be best for the community as we face property tax reform cuts. Our core services will remain intact and we remain committed to our serving our residents. Despite our cuts in revenue, we developed innovative and low cost initiatives, while still saving residents an average of $60 in City taxes. The City is working together with Representative Ari Porth and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to provide a new convenient ways to acquire driver’s licenses and identifications. Starting in September, the Mini-FLOW (Florida Licensing on Wheels) team will set up shop at the City’s Commission Chamber on the last Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No written or driving tests will be given at this site. Residents will be able to change an out-of-state license to a Florida license, renewals, duplicates for lost, stolen license, address/name changes, children ID cards, reinstatements, and emergency contact information registration. Tentative dates are scheduled through the end of 2008, including October 27, November 24 and December 29. No appointments are necessary. In this Presidential election year, we must voice our choice in order to be heard throughout the nation. Please mark off November 4 on your calendar (your children are off) and make sure you vote and bring a friend. Our Customer-Involved Government Committee will be working with other organizations to increase voter turnout and education and we are looking for volunteers to help us. If you are interested, please email me at SBrook@Coralsprings.org or look at our City website for more information.
Lastly, we are so proud of all of our local Olympians! Misty May, what an awesome job winning the Gold in Beach Volleyball! Dara Torres: You are one incredible role model for all of us merely making the Olympic team, let alone winning three silvers. Coach Michael Lohberg, you trained so many great Olympic athletes from across the globe right here and we appreciate you more than we could ever tell you. Adler Volmar, you have come a long way from your injury and made us proud giving it your best in Beijing. Walter Dix, you are FAST! Combined, the five of you were responsible for achieving more medals connected to Coral Springs (training, working, living;etc) than several countries. We were in awe to watch the Olympics and hear almost nightly mention of our small community. More than that, we are in awe of you and your accomplishments.
We hope to see all of you at the City parade we are working on to recognize our Olympic athletes in September. Please call 344-1001 for more information about a date and time.
