February Letter

First and foremost, I’d like to congratulate the Coral Springs Museum of Art for reaching its 10th anniversary.  Our Museum Director, Barbara O’Keefe, and her dedicated team have enriched our community with their innovative and diverse exhibitions. Great job, team and I know that the Museum will achieve great things in the years to come!

There are a variety of exciting events this month that you will not want to miss.

The City of Coral Springs strives to honor the strength of diversity in our community and we’re inviting everyone to come celebrate our cultural differences at Worldfest. The event will be held on February 10 and 11 at the Sportsplex, and will feature a spectacular array of entertainment, cuisine and culture. There will also be arts and crafts, educational activities, international folk games and amusement for children. The Sportsplex is located at

2575 Sportsplex Drive

, and the festival will be held across from Coral Glades High School. Admission is free and parking is $3. If you’d like more information on how you can become a sponsor or vendor, please call 954.344.1063 or visit www.coralsprings.org/events.

The Coral Springs Multi-Cultural Advisory will be hosting Unitown 2007 for the eleventh year. Unitown is a youth leadership and diversity weekend designed for Coral Springs high school students. This year, the event will be held at Gold Coast Camp in Lake Worth, from Saturday, February 17 to Monday, February 19. This program is free to the students, but a $50 refundable deposit is required. I encourage all students to attend. For those interested in participating, please call Lydia Cutz immediately at 954.344.1150.

On Sunday, February 11 there will be a remote hazardous waste collection at City Hall South, located at

9530 West Sample Road

. If you have any household hazardous waste items, such as paints, used motor oil, pesticides, flares, and propane tanks, this is the perfect time to get rid of them in a safe manner.

Congratulations Zen Belmond and Mark Anoff on your appointments as Co-Vice Chairs of the Customer-Involved Government Committee!  I look forward to working with you and our entire committee as we recruit mentors for at-risk youth, involve the business community in our endeavors and do as much community outreach as possible.

As always, please visit www.coralsprings.org for City news and visit our Event Calendar to view the Commission’s scheduled office hours. Feel free to email me at sbrook@coralsprings.org if there is anything I can help you with. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your loved ones!
