I hope 2008 will be a great year for you. Some of my goals as your Mayor for this year are as follows:
- Increase Voter Participation and turnout
- Help develop a formal recognition program of the creative talent that live and/or work in our Community
- Assist you in understanding the significance of our receipt of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award
- Work with small businesses to enhance their profitability and visibility
- Address teen issues, including a focus on those deal drugs at our schools
- Leverage the resources of the Family Success Center and help more families receive appropriate tax credits
- Help make our first-ever Government Academy a resounding success
In case you did not know, your entire City Commission hosts scheduled and unscheduled Office Hours. Please view our website, www.CoralSprings.org for details or call Catia at 344-5906 to set up an appointment.
The City has also launched a web site geared toward helping local youth find potential career paths that are right for them. The site, www.csteensundecided.com, allows students to find information about jobs, volunteer service, and alternative education opportunities. Please encourage your teens to take advantage of this resource.
For those of you that may not be aware, I am personally working with an organization, Premier Networking Alliance, to help teens that go to high school in our community learn about many different careers and skills to develop now in order to be successful in their futures. If you know of a teen that may be interested in a FREE four-day course that extends over four Mondays beginning in February, please contact me directly or Mark Anoff at 954-757-5551. Cyndi Amaya and Jeanette Garcia spearheaded PNA’s first Project Leadership in October and it was a resounding success. For more information and for an application, please look at www.pnanetwork.com.
I am also attempting to form a Coalition of Community Organizations in order to share best practices, help avoid overlap and possibly come up with some valuable partnerships. If you are interested, please email me at Scottbrook@scottjbrookpa.com. Thank you Neighborhood News for allowing me the privilege of reaching out to so many people. Lastly, I would like to personally thank Susan Gula and Catia Silva for providing all of the assistance you do for me as Mayor. You make my job even more enjoyable and peaceful.
Sincerely,
Mayor Scott J. Brook
