Property Tax Forum a Success

I hope you attended our Property Tax Forum on January 9 and enjoyed it. Congratulations and thank you John Faiella, of our Customer-Involved Government Committee (CIGC), for an extraordinary job! We had nine panelists that shared varying opinions of Amendment 1 and great questions from an audience of almost 600 people. I appreciate the City Commission support for my request to hold this forum and the leadership of the Broward League of Cities for co-sponsoring this event with the City and the CIGC.

I have heard from many residents, business owners and managers with complaints about the economy and several issues with Code Enforcement recently. I have met with the City Manager and I will be asking for City Commission support for another forum – to deal with how we can enhance the local economy and provide more jobs. If you are interested in attending, please email me at SBrook@Coralsprings.org. If you know of a business that has left Coral Springs I am also very interested in finding out why they left and how the City can possibly help a similarly-situated business in the future.

Our Family Concert Series continues this month with The Fabulons. This band will delight us with a mixture of classical and 50s music on Saturday, February 2 at 7 pm at Betti Stradling Park, 10301 Wiles Road. The concert is free, and you're welcome to bring your lawn chairs and coolers. For more information, please call 954-345-2200.

The Coral Springs Multi-Cultural Advisory will be hosting Unitown 2007 for the twelfth year. Unitown is a youth leadership and diversity weekend designed for Coral Springs high school students. This year, the event will be held at Gold Coast Camp in Lake Worth, from Saturday, February 16 to Monday, February 18. This program is free to the students, but a $50 refundable deposit is required. I strongly encourage all students to attend. It is truly an experience of a lifetime! For those interested in participating, please call Lydia Cutz at 954-344-1150.

On Sunday, February 10 there will be a remote hazardous waste collection at City Hall South, located at 9530 West Sample Road. If you have any household hazardous waste items, such as paints, used motor oil, pesticides, flares, and propane tanks, this is the perfect time to get rid of them in a safe manner.

As always, please visit www.coralsprings.org for City news and visit our Event Calendar to view the Commission's scheduled office hours. Feel free to email me at sbrook@coralsprings.org if there is anything I can help you with. Happy Valentine's Day to you and your loved ones! Lastly, please remember that our City Commission meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm and you are always welcome to attend and give input.
