Neighborhood Voice

Hello Friends and Citizens! I hope by now that you have altered your frame of reference from this time last year and things are going better for you. Despite living in a recession, there are numerous things to take advantage of in the City –from parks to concerts, from our Award-winning Museum to Restaurant Row; etc. We also have so many community-oriented citizens that are our friends and neighbors. The City is also blessed to have Officer Paul Kempinski and the entire police force.

At the time of this writing, Officer Kempinski was recovering well in the hospital from the vicious attack of an assailant with an AK-47. Both suspects were apprehended and we are confident that justice will prevail. On behalf of the entire community, I wish Officer Kempinski a speedy and full recovery and give our deepest gratitude for his bravery.

Over the next few months, the Commission will be debating next year's budget. Please visit our website at www.CoralSprings.org to find out about our meetings and to review past budgets so that we can hear your thoughts.

I am happy to report that at a recent workshop I along with each of my colleagues agreed to put the City on the Facebook map! We will start off with a trial period and allow limited wall postings about important issues. I think this will be a great way for us to connect with you and our youth in our community as well as an ideal way for collaboration. Through collaboration, we can serve you better and more efficiently. If you want to sign up, please learn how at www.CoralSprings.org. You can now also follow the City on Twitter. If you have teenagers, please direct them to us so they can receive all of our information and learn about everything the City has to offer them. You can sign them and yourselves up for CityText at www.coralsprings.org/citytext.

I invite you to personally Facebook me and mention reading this article and I have also started a Twitter account. We are definitely living in different times and I think there are so many opportunities for us to explore. Last night I connected with three old college friends from Facebook and found two other friends from High School. Being connected is a good thing!

Thanks to all of you who joined me in our Community Walk With The Mayor and braved the rain! Speaking of exercise, the Tennis Center of Coral Springs is offering its annual Junior Tennis Camp this summer. Camp begins the week of June 8 continuing through August 21. Weekly sessions as well as daily rates are available. The camp is designed for children ages 5 to 16 of all ability levels. Half-day and a full-day programs are available

An advanced camp is also available from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. This program is designed for the students in the City's Junior Academy Level One and Two. Participants must be evaluated to attend the program. Competitive players at Level Three are encouraged to sign up at a camp available at Cypress Park. For information and rates, call 954-295-3565. All camps are directed by a USPTA certified Teaching Professional. For more information, please call 954-344-1840.

Lastly I want to wish our son Mathew a Happy Birthday and our daughter Tina a Happy Birthday, too! It is amazing how time flies. If there is anything you need, please email me at Sbrook@coralsprings.org. For general information or to be directed to the right place, you can also call our help desk at 344-1001.
