Mayor's Letter for April

Thanks to all of you who participated in our recent "Support the Troops" event. I appreciate the Commission's support and the employees who made the event a success. Some of you may have heard about our Fire Chief's sudden resignation. Chief Haupt was a great leader for us and he will be sorely missed. We wish you and your family much love.

The City also had another successful Arts Festival due to the efforts of many volunteers and thousands of visitors. It was great to see so many worthy artists and performers. While I am writing this I am thoroughly enjoying another South Florida event – the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne. Annually, I take off as much time as possible to see some extraordinary tennis players in a beautiful environment. If you have never been you should make plans to go next March. There are visitors from all over the world and the tennis matches are exciting to watch.

If you have a city issue, we have a great tracking system that logs your issue, complaint, or comment at www.coralsprings.org/servicerequest. You will get a response in 48 hours. It is the most efficient way to refer you to the appropriate department. We appreciate knowing about things you like, as well!

I recently visited numerous classes at Westchester Elementary and the children were very impressive. They asked very intelligent questions and reflected their teachers' strong preparation for my visit. If your child is interested in a visit to his/her class, please contact my intern, Jeanette, at 954-757-8898. I may have a few openings before the end of the school year if your principal okays the visit.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to my predecessors on the Commission, especially Mayor John Sommerer, for laying such a strong foundation for our community. I enjoy the job tremendously and I have no doubt that the work of our prior leaders has made my job that much smoother. If you ever need me, please email me at SBrook@coralsprings.org or call me at 954-344-5906.
