Mayor's Message (Parkland Life)
October! It is a new fiscal year for our magnificent city. At the time I am writing this I anticipate that we will have had two successful budget hearings and we are getting ready for the Teen Political Forum - on October 9 - spearheaded by Vice Mayor Gold and some great volunteers. Please look at our website for more information at www.coralsprings.org.
This is also the time of year for the Fourth Annual Festival of the Flutes. This year's event will be held on Thursday, October 11 at the Marriott Heron Bay for the fourth straight year. Parkland Life has been a valuable contributor for each year as the Community Chest of Coral Springs has been an annual beneficiary. Please go to City Hall or my law office at 3200 N. University Drive, Suite 208 to pick up your ticket and help our community. For more information, please look at www.pnanetwork.com or
www.FestivalOfTheFlutes.org. Thanks to Terry Boccard for all of your hard work as Chair, to Rick Figley for being our Webmaster and to Commerce Bank for being our Title Sponsor.
What are you doing on January 29? Besides celebrating my son AJ's 9th birthday, I will be voting on the Constitutional Amendment and in the Presidential Primary. The Customer-Involved Government Committee will be doing everything we can to pump up voter turnout in this important election. Please look at our website for ways to get involved, get educated and help make our City make a greater difference in your lives. Please save the date and make sure your voice is heard.
The Customer-Involved Government Committee is a great way to learn about volunteer opportunities available and learn about some "hidden" benefits of living in the City. At times, this citizens' committee serves as a focus group on issues in the community. Our primary objective has been to increase voter turnout and education. We also have a Speaker's Bureau of citizen volunteers that are able to speak to a group about an upcoming issue. Our next meeting will be on Oct. 10 at 6 pm at the West Wing of City Hall. This meeting is open to the public.
I want to thank all of my colleagues at the City and my firm for your steadfast support during some difficult personal times recently. I appreciate you all greatly.
Residents, you can now tune your dials to CityRadio 1670 AM. Coral Springs new radio station delivers information about City services, upcoming events, weather updates, and emergency bulletins when necessary. We were able to begin this station through a significant federal grant and it will serve as a great, convenient way to be informed.
Join me for the first Family Movie Night at the Park on Saturday, October 13 at 7 PM. Residents are welcome to bring lawn chairs and coolers for this FREE family event. The movie will be announced closer to the date, so stay tuned. For more information, call 954-345-2200.
We recently recognized some wonderful grandparents at our City Commission meeting thanks to Commissioner Bruck's request to do so. It was a touching moment for me as I recalled the love and unselfishness of my Grandma Yetta and the role model she remains for me despite her passing years ago. On that note, if you have a parent or grandparent whose made a difference for you, make sure you let them know.
While sometimes I debate whether I should write personal things like this here, my heart always wins out. It's a combination of what this magazine offers, the heart of Mindi and you that leads me to share openly with you. I feel so blessed to live here, raise my children here while working for you and with you as Your Mayor. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
