It is that time again. TO VOTE!

It is that time again.  TO VOTE!  To exercise your right to be heard.  That is, BEFORE you complain about the choice that others have made for you.  November 7 is the General Election.  Lately, I have asked the entire community to get involved with making sure others get to vote.  We especially need young people to be heard.  The more people in our community that vote the more powerful our community becomes.  Please don't just vote on November 7 (or through early or absentee voting), make sure everyone around you does.

I am so thankful to the League of Women Voters and their representative on the City's Customer-Involved Government Committee, Carol Smith.  They organized the first-ever major candidates' debate in Coral Springs this past October 10 at the Center for the arts between the Congressional candidates in one of the country's hottest races.  I am hopeful that in the future we will have other major debates, as well.

Downtown Coral Springs is coming!  Phase One is almost complete on the Southeast Corner of Sample and University Drive.  I want to thank our CRA Chairman, John Ruffin, and the entire Board for your tireless volunteer work on behalf of our City.  For more information on Downtown Redevelopment, please look at our website, www.coralpsrings.org.  You can also attend the public meetings of the CRA and give them your input about what you would like to see in our community's future.

More great news!  We are the first city to be chosen for a site visit by representatives for the Malcolm Baldridge award.  This award is a National Quality Award presented annually at the White House to organizations for their corporate and performance excellence.  We are aspiring to be the first government entity to achieve such recognition.  In order to win the award you must first have a site visit.  We look forward to the visit and especially to the ideas we will cull to lift our community to even higher levels.

We are still looking for mentors.  Our next mentor training will take place on November 8 at the West Wing of City Hall from 8:30 am to 10 am.  I have mentored a high school student for over 3 years now and it has been a great experience.  If you are interested, I encourage you to call Pat Mirabello at 344-5907, even if this particular date does not work for you.

On Monday, November 20, I have an open date for Coffee with the Mayor at Starbuck's from 8:30 am to 10 am (changed from 11-21).  Please call Chelsea Nolan (my wonderful new intern courtesy of the Ace Academy at the Charter School) at 954-757-5551 to schedule an appointment.  Thank you Chelsea and Mark Anoff for working with me on the City's Government Leadership program.

I wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving.  As always, please feel free to email me at Sbrook@Coralsprings.org or call my cell at 954-494-9872 if there is anything I can help you with.
