The City of Coral Springs Was Rated the Most Livable City in Florida

In case you missed it, its worth repeating.  The City of Coral Springs was rated the most livable City in Florida by CNN/Money Magazine!  Wow!  We also ranked 27th in the entire nation.   Some of the essential reasons include our public safety, education, restaurants and the range of affordable housing in our community.  You will see the City engage in a marketing campaign to showcase our strengths.

Such acclamation does not get achieved without the hard work and dedication of our 700 plus employees and countless volunteers.  I also want to personally thank former Mayor Rhon Ernest Jones as we changed our Mission Statement under his leadership two years ago:  To Be The Premier Community In Which To Live, Work and Raise a Family.  We had already achieved such recognition by the Florida League of Cities in the State and we have since sought national recognition.  I also want to thank our strong City Manager, Mike Levinson, for his leadership in maintaining our AAA credit rating through two seasons plus of hurricanes.

In October, the City begins our first ever Government Leadership Classes.  If you want to sign up, please email me at Sbrook@coralsprings.org and cc my Administrative Assistant for my law firm, Kim Krost, at Kkrost@scottjbrookpa.com.  You will learn about what the City does and doesn’t service, where your tax dollars go and have an opportunity to share your own ideas for government leadership.  The class will begin on Monday Oct. 16 at 4:30 and run four consecutive Mondays for one and a half hour each class.  Your entire Commission will be involved!

I am also proud to announce that the Sawgrass Nature Center (SNC) will be holding it’s grand opening October 18. I’d like to thank Joan Kohl, founder and president of SNC, for her hard work and dedication in developing this wildlife rehabilitation center. The center currently provides care for injured, sick or orphaned wildlife and will be offering a variety of education exhibits soon. For more information on the SNC, visit www.sawgrassnaturecenter.org.

As a matter of personal privilege I want to wish my baby girl, Sammi, a Happy 6th Birthday on October 9.  I love you soooo much!!!

One more great event that takes place in October is PNA’s Third Annual Festival of the Flutes.  This year, the event will benefit SOS Children’s Villages of Florida as a partner and also raise funds for the Community Chest of Coral Springs.  For tickets or sponsorship opportunities, please view www.festivaloftheflutes.org or www.pnanetwork.com.  Thank you Parkland Life for taking on the lead Media Sponsor role and to Webmaster Rick Figley for donating your time and expertise!

Lastly, you can meet me for coffee later this month at Starbuck’s on the 18th and at Java D’Lites on the 27th from 8:30 am until 10 am.  For all of the Commission’s Office Hours, please look at www.coralsprings.org.  Please call 954-344-1142  for an appointment with anyone of us.  Have a beautiful day!
