The City needs you

The City needs you!  Can you picture me with an Uncle Sam outfit pointing at you?  I am asking you to volunteer for us.  We have many Board openings, we need your ideas for our Family and Youth Committee, to help increase voter turnout (mark September 5 on your calendars!), to work with at-risk youth in our community and to help at City Hall, amongst many others.  Please look at www.coralsprings.org to learn about how to volunteer or call me at 954-895-0480.

As the Mayor, I have the honor to serve as a non-voting member on the Board of our Chamber of Commerce.  I want to thank the Board, our outgoing Executive Director and our staff for doing such a great job serving over 600 members.  We have many extraordinary ambassadors and members and I urge you to join us for any upcoming event to network and meet some community leaders as well.  For more information on the Chamber, please view www.cschamber.com.

The City of Coral Springs is working on a citywide customer service initiative and I’d like to encourage all of the local businesses to get involved. Businesses can sign up and employees will receive training on how to keep customers coming back. Secret shoppers will be visiting participating businesses, rate the service they receive, and grant prizes right on the spot! Your business will benefit greatly from this program, and those with consistent premier service will receive recognition and publicity at the end of the program. If you’re interested or would like more information, please e-mail Korey Meckes, Human Resources Coordinator, at Kmeckes@coralsprings.org.

I’m proud to announce that the entire City Commission is now providing residents with office hours on a regular basis. For more details, visit the city’s website at www.coralsprings.org and click on the event calendar to view the scheduled dates and locations. To set up an appointment, please call Cindy Korth at 954.344.5906.

Many of you have asked me what its like to be the Mayor and how much time does it take.  Well, it is an honor and a pleasure to be Your Mayor and work with and for such fine people.  For the first three months I devoted about 40 hours a week.  Recently, the time commitment is closer to 20 hours a week, allowing me to practice law full-time.  I couldn't do what I do without the support of our City Manager, Mike Levinson, my Wife, Brenda, my City Commission, our City Attorney, Sam Goren and my law firm staff, especially Jodi and Kim.

With the support of the City Commission, I am hoping that we will join Parkland and the Broward County School Board, with School Board Member Stephanie Kraft, for an educational forum/summit on Thursday, August 17, at Stoneman Douglas High School at 6 p.m.  For more information, please contact me at Scottbrook@scottjbrookpa.com.

Please also save October 19 on your calendar for PNA's third Annual Festival of the Flutes at the Marriott Heron Bay.  Thanks to Parkland Life, the Marriott, Cafe Como, Java D'Lites, BankAtlantic, WCI, Amtrust Bank, Kiwanis and Dr. Gerald Gluck for being early sponsors.  For more information, please view www.pnanetwork,com or www.festivaloftheflutes.org.  All net proceeds will benefit SOS Children's Village and the Coral Springs Community Chest.

Lastly, thank you citizens for a wonderful first quarter as Your Mayor.  You have been great!
