Focus on Coral Springs

First, I wish all the fathers a Happy Father's Day!  Although my favorite job I have ever held is as Mayor (at least so far), my favorite role is being a father.  There is nothing quite like raising children.

Rick Engle, our Director of Parks and Recreation, recently advised our City's Parent Education Committee of so many opportunities for our children in summer camps.  The camps are at different locations, different times and for a variety of activities.  For more information, please pick up a Summer Fun Guide at City Hall, City Hall in the Mall or at Java D'lites.I want to thank so many residents for sharing so many great ideas and issues with me over the last few months.  I hope that you will see positive results over the coming months concerning several issues.  One primary concern shared by many is speeding.  Let me give you a hint of what is to come.  YOU DO NOT WANT TO SPEED IN CORAL SPRINGS!  You will be ticketed and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  As your Mayor, I have zero tolerance for speeders.  I thank our motor patrol for being so visible and diligent.  I have also had a few residents complain of our failure to use our turn signals.  I implore everyone to focus on following the rules of the road so we can keep our City as safe as possible.

Another focus our Commission has is code enforcement and neighborhood vitality.  If your neighborhood would like to partner with the City for a beautification project, please call the office of Susan Hess at 344-1114 for more information.

I recently attended a fantastic conference on Affordable Housing and Economic Development in Tempe, Arizona.  As the City has reached build out, we are now focused on redevelopment and addressing the housing needs of our residents and workforce, as well.  In the near future, the Commission will be developing a strong affordable housing policy and I welcome your input.  Please email me at:

sbrook@coralsprings.org or call me at 954-494-9872.

I am also proud to announce that as of this writing Commissioner Boccard has joined Vice Mayor Gold in providing you, our citizens, with office hours on a regular basis.  For more details or an appointment with any one of us, please call our Administrative Assistant (who is wonderful, by the way!), Cindy Korth at 344-5906.

Lastly, and personally, I want to wish my unselfish and sweet Dad, Seymour Brook, a Happy Father's Day.

Your Coral Springs Mayor,

Scott J. Brook
